Dr. Tom Schutzius has been awarded the prestigious ERC Starting Grant to support his research on understanding the fundamentals of limescale formation on surfaces (scaling) and using this knowledge to rationally engineer "scale-phobic" surfaces for applications at the water-energy nexus. This is an exciting and challenging scientific and engineering problem that brings together diverse topics such as nucleation thermodynamics, surface science and nanoengineering, and interfacial transport phenomena.
